As heroic and fun as Indy is, Marion is just as entertaining and a true badass in her own ri

Simply put, people of non-Western nationalities are shown as exotic caricatures at best and non-white bad guys at worst. The Hovitos tribe, Toht’s Nepalese gunmen, and the Egyptians only exist to hinder or help Indy, having little to no agency to speak of. While their depictions are a product of the archaic adventurer genre’s trappings, the racially insensitive subtext can’t be igno

Belloq plans to test the Ark’s power on a remote island before presenting it to Hitler and has his soldiers carry it through the desert along with Marion. But Indy still doesn’t admit defeat there. He’s chased by the tribe all the way back to Jock’s seaplane and still manages to live to tell the t

The story of a fighter who needs to get drunk to fight made for the perfect action comedy , because the joke engine of the comedy is driven by action. The fights are masterfully choreographed and performed by experts, but it has a slapstick approach. As usual, Chan’s stunt work is impecca

Comparing the before and after shots reveals the well-hidden mistake. In the before shot, the dead driver accelerates the truck towards an obvious dead-end full of buildings on a cramped street. In the next shot, it has somehow turned a corner and emptied into a large open area, where the explosion is triggered. It's a bizarre mistake that somehow got left in, with no pickup shot between takes that would explain the discrepa

Instead, the filmmakers used Mexican Redknees tarantulas for two possible reasons. First, they're native to Mexico, which is closer in geography. Second, Mexican Redknees are very docile spiders that rarely bite or kick up a fuss, making them much easier to han

There's a bizarre goof near the end of the second act when Indy and Marion manage to escape the Well of Souls and make their way over to the Nazi airplane. After they emerge from the tomb, a seemingly unconscious man can be seen in one of the wide shots slumped against the rocks to the l

Jock fires up his biplane, while Indy makes his way through a dense nest of trees, before emerging on the other side. This would have made it impossible for Jock to have any sort of visual contact with Indy as he was running towards the plane in the previous shot. In comparison with the film's other goofs, it's an easily spotted mist

During the iconic truck chase, Indy is launched through the windshield and left hanging from the front grill of the speeding vehicle. The driver puts his foot down so he can squish Indy into the back of Belloq’s car, so Indy has to climb under the truck. The practical stunts in this sequence are breathtak

There are some cinematic goofs and mistakes that people never notice until they're pointed out. One of the most hilarious of these occurs during the scene when a group of thugs force Marion onto the back of a truck and inside a large wicker basket. In an attempt to stop them from driving away, Indy shoots the driver, which causes the truck to overturn and expl

Indy is a stereotypical man’s man, someone who’s so manly that even as an academic his forte is punching people. Because he’s the hero, he gets away with casual misogyny, violence, and has to heroically dodge women’s affection (ex. One of his students). This doesn’t make him terrible, but his example is better left in the confines of cinema and mythmak

The character is said to be returning in a new sequel which could be a good idea of a bad idea. Though there are fans of Temple of Doom and even The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , it's generally agreed that his two best appearances are in Raiders of the Lost ark news Ark and The Last Crusade . But which is better? Let's take a look at both films and see which comes out on

When Indy gets back in the truck and throws the driver through the windshield, the driver tries and instantly fails to pull off the same impressive feat, making up one of Indiana Jones' best action sequenc

Traditionally, the word "cist" is meant to be pronounced with a hard "k," as opposed to a soft "c." However, this varies based on who is actually saying the word. Archaeologists tend to stick with the former, as it is believed to be the proper pronunciation. Indiana Jones’ (Harrison Ford) cinematic debut has him fighting Nazis around the world in a breathtaking adventure movie that only Spielberg could make. Since then, action movies followed Raiders’ example and Indy’s presence was never forgot
