While Blizzard (the makers of _ Warcraft III _ ) had their hand in giving birth to MOBAs as a genre, they’ve been strangely behind the times while MOBAs took the E-sports world by storm. It wasn’t until 2015, with the release of _ Heroes of the Storm _ ( _ HotS _ for short), that Blizzard took these multiplayer battle arenas seriously enough to warrant a game of their own. And while _ League of Legends _ (or _ LoL _ for short) is still top dog, it has a lot to learn from Blizzard’s upstart M

One game has way more team fights than the other, and that’s _ Heroes of the Storm _ . In _ HotS _ maps usually, have objectives that will bring teams into conflict within the first 5 minutes. _ League _ doesn’t have that, and it’s even possible to have entire games where the only kills are solo-lane ganks that eventually result in death timers so long there isn’t even a climactic final battle at the enemy’s c

Kaeo Milker: We sort of touch on it in a number of places. If you look back at the way we release things for the game, usually we'll release everything from machinima trailers that will be cinematic sometimes, to write-ups and in-game things like the flavor text we put on sk

I feel that way with for all four of these teams. It'll be heartbreaking to see three teams not win but I'll be happy to see one of them actually become heroes of the dorm. It's very easy to find protagonists in this tournam

Yes you, you’re the worst. You, the person next to you, everyone in your game, and me. We are all the worst and wildly hated characters in League of Legends . Even though I try to be very constructive and avoid getting into shouting matches, because this is a team game after all, I know I’m hated because I’m constantly told so. If I say something like, "it’s okay, play under turret, I’ll gank after backing, and we’ll win this in the late game." The answer I usually get is, "**** you, you suck, no gank, ff" (or a variation of that, usually there are many more spelling errors). There are no lack of examples from everyone’s personal experiences. If you don’t play League and would like to see how bad it is, check out Disco Heat’s YouTube channel and his series, League of Children . Particularly, his one-off playlist after episode 10. He just rips those videos straight from other streamers. He does not edit them, he does not punch them up, it is just click the next article raw footage of people flaming while playing the game. Remember, these videos showcase players when they know there is a camera on them live streaming. I can only imagine how bad they can get off-cam

Let’s take the issue of leavers. In _ League of Legends _ if somebody leaves their character sits there like a lump and does absolutely nothing. In _ Heroes of the Storm _ if a player leaves then their hero is taken over by computer AI and continues to fight. The AI isn’t perfect, and it won’t respond the same way a human player would in any given situation, but it’s a lot better than being a man down just because some jerk decided that their house burning down was more important than their _ LoL _ g

Following on from the previous point, you should setup Item Kits to quickly buy items at the start and during the match. Being able to click on your items within a second can save a teammate's live if they're in need of assistance. You used to easily be able to setup Item Sets, but that feature wasn’t used enough and was ditched, but can still be accessed if you use the earlier launcher. If you don’t want to use Item Kits, you should still keep a mental note of different k

_ Heroes of the Storm _ , on the other hand, has a colossal _ thirteen _ maps, each meticulously balanced to give each team a fair chance at victory. Each map has its own variations in terms of size, lane separation, and jungle encampments (called mercenary camps in _ HotS _ ) that all feel very different, making each game fresh and excit

A smaller roster, like one found in _ Heroes of the Storm _ , makes it much easier to remember what your opponent can do, making it much better experience for new players. Not only that, but each hero is taken from previous Blizzard titles like _ Overwatch _ or _ World of Warcraft _ , giving each character a powerful, built-in backstory for a new player to identify w

As you likely have already guessed, _ HotS _ doesn’t have this problem because there’s no gold (at least, not in a match - there is gold to buy heroes, but that’s done in menus). You don’t even need to be the agent of destruction in order to ensure your team keeps accruing experience. In fact, certain heroes specialize in this behaviour, which is super weird. More on that la

By now, you would have played a few games, both in practice mode and vs real players. You should have noticed that every champion has different abilities, cooldowns, damage and reach, and you should learn these. While it might seem daunting at first, with over 130 enemies to face, that number quickly drops when it comes to PvP and ranked, as not every champion is played. Simply ask your teammates or look only for "popular" champi
