After it was officially unveiled back in 2021, until this recent trailer, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had somewhat fallen by the wayside, due to the increasing number of Soulslikes being released in quick succession. One such game is Black Myth Wukong , which releases in August. Featuring Soulslike mechanics, similarly fantastical boss fights, and steeped in Ancient Chinese history, Wukong will likely be compared to Wuchang , even though the art styles are quite different. Indeed, Wuchang 's tone a...

Of the many Soulslike games announced in recent years, few managed to capture gamers’ attention quite like developer Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong did with its 2020 debut trailer. The lengthy gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Wukong gave gamers their first glimpse of the gorgeous action title based on the famous 16th-century Chinese novel, Journey to the West, and left many wanting more. To attract an audience who may be unfamiliar with the epic tale, though, Black Myth: Wukong will have to r...

Fans of the soulslike genre have become used to freely switching between a large range of weaponry from swords to axes and daggers, and games like Nioh 2 have offered huge levels of customization to help make the player's experience unique. It is currently unclear whether Black Myth: Wukong will offer such variety, as Sun Wukong's staff appears to be the key element of the player's offensive arsenal. If the staff is the only weapon available, then ensuring it is regularly enhanced and upgraded w...

Black Myth: Wukong , an upcoming Soulslike based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West , got a big trailer at The Game Awards. Not only did this new teaser show off titanic foes and dazzling fidelity, but it also demonstrated how Black Myth: Wukong 's mythological creatures will be unlike anything players have seen in the genre thus While Black Myth: Wukong has been marketed as a Soulslike, and it certainly appears to have elements of Soulslike gameplay, it might not be as true ...

I’ve been watching a lot of Elden Ring clips this week, especially the ones that include commentary about the player feeling frustrated or demoralized. What I’m seeing most often is bosses that chain together multiple attacks that force you to dodge with perfect timing over and over. It feels like you should be rewarded with an opening to counter attack when you time a dodge perfectly, but Erdtree’s bosses like to dance around, striking repeatedly, and force you to dodge three, four, sometimes f...

Try as I might, I ended Gamescom 2023 without getting the chance to play its biggest game, which is a big shame, even if I’d only just started to show an interest in it. I still have no clue why Black Myth: Wukong was such a big deal, though. Maybe the epic Opening Night Live trailer resonated with others just as much as it did for me. Maybe the long queue times turned into something that people just had to see. Or maybe, just maybe, Gamescom, gamers, and the entire world are conspiring against ...

Wukong also doesn’t have a parry, so dodging is your only means of avoiding damage. There are different kinds of dodges, though. One of the stances allows you to climb on top of your staff and sit there out of range while the boss leaps around, then leap off the staff and come down on the fiend's head with one big strike. That will work against some bosses, but more commonly you’re just expected to dodge, dodge, and dodge ag From talking to other FromSoft experts, I’ve gathered that Erdtree’s fi...
