Either way, the fact that Avowed 's gods were inventions of mortals and there is no true higher power that created the universe taps in to a Lovecraftian sense of dread. That dread will likely be infused into Avowed 's plot in a way that the Godhead and CHIM are unlikely to ever play a central role in an Elder Scrolls games. How exactly Avowed plans to handle its story remains to be seen, but the creeping existential unease that hangs over Avowed 's universe will almost certainly be felt, and could be one of the key ways the game's tone distinguishes itself from The Elder Scrolls seri In Skyrim , the player is encouraged to imagine almost everything about their character’s history and internal life, and the game’s lack of developed followers encourages a similar mindset with the game’s secondary characters. While few of Skyrim ’s followers have much story to speak of, the sheer breadth of companions that this allows the game to have shouldn’t be dismissed, and with players already relying on their own imaginations when it comes to the Dragonborn , the amount of followers in the game helps give greater variety to each Skyrim playthrough than a game like New Vegas or The Outer Worlds Oaths are referenced twice, and the trailer ends with a reference to a crown. Crowns are one of Woedica's symbols, and unlike the other gods of Eora Woedica can be seen wearing a crown in all of her depictions. A crown symbol very similar to Woedica's can also be seen on the banner hanging from the castle in the trailer. While the narrator's identity is unclear, they appear to be describing a history where ruling families gained their power by making oaths to Woedica. When they broke those oaths the deity — also the goddess of vengeance — created monsters like the one the player character is waiting for at the end of the trai As a frontier, Solstheim inadvertently overcomes some of Skyrim ’s most common criticisms . While hold capitals like Whiterun in the main game feel suspiciously small for cities, the tiny settlements of Solstheim feel more realistically sized considering how isolated their populations are. It’s immersion-breaking when Nazeem assumes the Dragonborn has never been to Whiterun's Cloud District, which consists of one building usually no less than a hundred feet a This bodes well for The Outer Worlds 2 , which was announced at E3 2021. The game's trailer parodied the early announcements of other games - particularly RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Elder Scrolls 6 - suggesting it's in very early development. In that case, The Outer Worlds 2 could be in Obsidian's back pocket, with the announcement trailer designed to keep interest in the studio's upcoming releases as it works on Avowed . In other words, the fact that both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are "in development" doesn't actually mean that Obsidian is dividing its resources evenly between the games, or anywhere cl Almost every line in the Avowed trailer points to the return of Woedica, a goddess from Pillars of Eternity who is also known as the Burned Queen, the Exiled Queen, the Oathbinder, or the Strangler. Here are all the hints at her return, and what players can expect from Woedica in Avowed Weapons 's st There is one small problem with The Outer Worlds , however, that could prove to be a far larger problem if not solved in time for Avowed . If Obsidian Entertainment is going to take on a giant like The Elder Scrolls series, fixing this issue will be an absolute necess Obsidian’s RPGs from Pillars of Eternity to The Outer Worlds have focused on a smaller but more developed cast of secondary characters with unique lines and greater integration into the game’s main plot. Bethesda has also done this more since Skyrim , with Fallout 4 ’s follower characters like Nick Valentine having their own quests and character developm Todd Howard recently announced that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still "in the design phase" over three years after its initial reveal, with the studio focusing primarily on Starfield , its first new IP in over 25 years. It's likely that, similar to Bethesda, most of Obsidian's resources are currently focused on Avowed . The Outer Worlds 2 's trailer may have poked fun at games announced long before their development had begun in earnest, but it's also likely a self-confessed culprit of exactly t That might be bad news for fans of The Outer Worlds hoping to see the sequel soon, but it could be good news for Obsidian overall. In fact, it seems like Obsidian might be taking its time with its main projects. Avowed was expected by many to make an appearance at E3 2021, and the fact that it didn't could mean that Obsidian is holding off on revealing too much until it's really ready. If the last year has taught RPG developers anything, it's not to build too much hype too early, something Cyberpunk 2077 infamously fell victim to over its prolonged development and controversial, chaotic rele
