The Real Struggles MBA Students Face While Completing Their Projects When I first began my IGNOU MBA project support (click the following page) project, I thought it would be simple. Pick a subject, conduct some researching, write it down and then submit. Easy. I imagined having it completed in a few weeks with a few late nights prior to the deadline. It was a shock to the system. The task isn't just reporting. It tests your plan, resilience and ability with unexpected challenges. Most of my students has had some difficulty in one way or the other. Many students think they can treat the project like regular assignments or case studies. But after a couple of weeks, they realize deadlines are coming closer than expected or that the data isn't complete, chapters do not connect and motivation declines. The MBA project could be overwhelming if you don't approach it appropriately. Here I will outline some of the challenges that students face and the best ways to deal with these. There's no secret formula however, learning from experiences helps greatly. Choosing a Topic Is Harder Than It Looks It may appear simple but it's not. I made the error of choosing a topic that seemed appealing, but it was not able to accomplish. Weeks went by as I attempted to gather data from companies which never contacted me. Some of my friends chose trendy subjects without even considering whether they had data. The result is similar. You are exhausted for weeks and frustrated. An actual topic is better than a grandiose one. It should match your resources and your passion. For instance, in place of "The Future of Marketing in India" select "Social Media Marketing Strategies in Local Retail Stores." It's focused, the data is much easier to collect, and the objectives are clear. Objectives Are More Important Than You Think Objectives will guide your project throughout. Numerous students do the error of writing vague objectives such as "To study the impact of leadership on productivity." This isn't telling the whole story. My objectives were rewritten multiple times to make them measurable and precise. A clear set of objectives helps you determine what method to use, how data is collected and analysis. If your objectives are not clear enough, your project will feel disconnected. I've learned to ask myself what exactly I'm looking to quantify and how I can tell if I am successful. These types of questions make an enormous difference in the quality of the work. Collecting and Analysing Data Is Painful Data collection is the area where many students are struggling. I spent a lot of time contacting small businesses with surveys. Some did not respond and others promised me answers that did not come. While online surveys can help, the responses are usually incomplete. Analysis is a second challenge. You may have perfectly designed tables and charts but if you are unable to explain the meaning behind them, they're not useful. Students copied graphs without understanding. These numbers do not support anything unless you describe them. A good tip is to practice your survey by talking to a few people prior to completing it. It will help you find the most confusing questions and helps avoid wasting time. Always make sure to link your analysis with the goals. For instance, if your research investigates customer satisfaction, make sure your survey has quantifiable data concerning service quality, product quality, and the speed of response. Time Management Is Tough Time management is important, but in MBA it is harder than it is. Between classes, group work courses, internships and assignments, there's no time. The chapters I was putting off thought I could complete in a couple of days. However, after a few weeks I was worried. The task can be broken down into smaller tasks is helpful. Split it up into literature review methodologies, data collection and analysis, as well as writing chapters for each. Keep track of your progress each week. Just one chapter or part completed per week is motivating. Writing Is Harder Than You Think Even with data-ready writing can be challenging. I was unable to convey my findings in a straightforward manner. Certain sections seemed repetitive. I wrote the analysis chapter many times. Make sure that the language is simple and easy to read. You can ask your friends to review sections. Sometimes being too immersed in your work, it becomes difficult to notice errors. Fresh eyes help a lot. Supervisors Can Be Helpful But Also Frustrating The work of a supervisory is difficult. Some give clear guidance however, some are unclear or difficult to comprehend. It took me 2 weeks to get the response but it took a while to complete my progress. The most important thing is proactive. You should prepare specific questions, then promptly follow up and write down feedback. While supervisors can assist, you have to take responsibility for the project you are working on. Formatting and References Matter I was hesitant to format at first. Fonts, spacing, certificates. I thought I could correct them later. Big mistake. It was almost delayed in the submission. References are equally vital. One missing citation can raise questions. Use tools to manage references, and you can do it while writing chapters, not waiting for the finish. Proper formatting makes your paper much easier for readers and makes it appear more professional. Stress Is Real Stress is unavoidable. The deadlines, corrections, and the inability to complete data can be a burden. In the evenings, I sat staring at the computer screen, feeling as if I'd never be finished. Short breaks help. Friends talking, going for a walk, listening to music. Celebrate small wins. Finalizing a literature review and data collection are both milestones. They keep motivation fresh. Ethical Confusion Students are often confused about what kind of help is permitted. You may seek guidance but you aren't able to get someone else to write your proposal. Ethics-based guidance provides feedback on the structure, methodology, and clarity. The original work is yours to keep. Asking for guidance does not indicate cheating. You should make the most of the resources available. Supervisors expect students to take advantage of assistance if they're stuck. Reviewing Your Work I concentrated on each chapter individually at first. However, later I realized the work overall had a lot of repetitions in terms that were inconsistent and also missing links. When I read the entire project, it reveals holes. Imagine yourself as an examiner. You will catch mistakes you didn't notice previously. Procrastination Destroys Quality The delay in work is a major problem. It was my expectation that I could finish data analysis and writing in a couple of weeks. This didn't happen. Each delay affected the quality. Get up early. Even a single paragraph every day adds up. The project becomes easier to manage instead of overwhelming. What I Learned The MBA project isn't hard because of complexity. It is hard because students lack clarity, planning and guidance. We all make mistakes. The key is to learn and improve. The ability to organize is beneficial, but flexibility is the most important thing. It is not often that things go according to plan. Sometimes, data is missing The supervisors will hesitate the process, and obstacles will arise. The key is how you tackle these problems. Break down tasks into smaller pieces each step, concentrate on a single step in a row, and adhere to reasonable expectations. Projects teach skills beyond academics. Discipline in research, time management clarity of writing and problem solving are lessons which are still relevant in professional life. The project is stressful yet also practical. Closing Thoughts If you are starting your MBA task, choose a field you can actually research. Create clear objectives. Set small steps. For help, contact the experts. Pause for breaks. Keep your writing simple. Avoid chasing perfection. Start at an early age. The MBA project does more than simply a report. It tests patience, planning and problem solving. You'll be challenged. Everyone does. However, every effort teaches a lesson. At the end of the day, the work does not just get submitted. It shapes you as an undergraduate, researcher and professional in the future.
