The Blurry Road Ahead: My Cycling Vision Challenge
For years, cycling was a mix of joy and frustration. My regular glasses just weren’t cut out for it. They'd fog up when I stopped at a light, slip down my sweaty nose on climbs, and the glare from the sun made seeing potholes a real challenge. I knew I needed proper prescription sports glasses for cycling, but finding them felt like an impossible task.
I tried different optical shops. Each time, it felt like a gamble. I remember one place, in particular, where I spent so much time and money, only to end up with glasses that just didn’t work. The staff seemed rushed and not truly interested in what *I* needed. I'd explain I wanted something for active use, something that would give me clear vision for distance and maybe a little for my bike computer. But I often got pushed towards options that were either too complicated or completely wrong for my cycling adventures.
One time, after waiting ages, a pair of new lenses came back totally off. I couldn't see clearly at all. Going back was even worse. It felt like I was inconveniencing them. The "new" doctor even argued with me about my own vision needs! He insisted I needed certain types of lenses that just weren't right for me, and rushed me out the door feeling completely unheard. It was incredibly frustrating. I walked out with glasses that hurt my eyes and my neck to use, feeling like I'd wasted a huge amount of money. Another place made me wait for an hour, mixed up my records, and then lost my contact lens order. The customer service was just awful, and it left me feeling so defeated.
