One of the strangest aspects of the Pillars of Eternity universe is the way that death works in Eora. Not only is Eora's relationship with death likely to be one of the most interesting parts of Avowed , but just how death will work will depend on when Avowed is set in relation to the events of Pillars of Eterni It is possible that guns may still exist in Avowed , even if the game is set some time before the Pillars of Eternity games. Avowed will be set in the Living Lands , a wild northern frontier filled with competing factions and strange beasts. It may be that the Living Lands are less technologically developed than the heart of Eora's empires, but that more modern technology like guns can still be fo Avowed has several ways to distinguish itself from Skyrim, thanks to it spinning off from a series that already has an established setting and lore. Another way to further separate it from the Bethesda series would be to use the ship mechanic from Pillars of Eternity 2 . While it wouldn't have to be ships specifically as the mode of transport, it made traveling in Deadfire more interesting. Players were liable to be attacked by enemies while traversing the sea and altogether made for a more interesting way to travel the game world. This could work in Avowed even for land travel, with gamers risking being attacked depending on where they were journeying to and how far their destination Avowed will be set in the Living Lands , a harsh but ecologically diverse frontier to the north of Eora, the world first established in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity . The fact that the Living Lands are a harsh frontier does not mean that interactions with humanoid NPCs outside of quests should be violent by default. Avowed needs to give players enough options when interacting with non-quest NPCs that their interactions can generate small but dynamic storytelling opportunit When it comes to the question of whether players will be able to use guns as a weapon in Avowed , the game's setting in time is key. If the game is set in the same period as Pillars of Eternity the answer is almost certainly yes. However, there are indications that Avowed may be set long before the events of Pillars of Eternity , in a very different period of Eora's histo Lovecraft's Azathoth and The Elder Scrolls ' Godhead are both consciousnesses that exist beyond reality. Lovecraft's other powerful beings like Cthulhu are still ultimately subject to the subconsciousness of the Blind Idiot God, while Tamriel's Nine Divines are still just figments of the Godhead's dream The Engwithans also used Animancy to create the gods of Eora using the souls of thousands of their own citizens. The gods are sustained by the essence souls lose to entropy while moving through The Wheel. Eventually, the Engwithans had changed the cycle of rebirth so much that The Wheel was reliant upon their machine. During the Pillars of Eternity games the god Eothas attempts to destroy the Engwithan machine. However, there are reasons to think Avowed Crafting guide will take place long before that ev Obsidian's upcoming first-person RPG Avowed is set in the same universe as the studio's Pillars of Eternity series. While the trailer seems light on detail, it's actually packed full of evidence that one key character will be returning from Pillars of Eternity in a central r Even hostile interactions can present multiple non-combat roleplaying opportunities. A gang of bandits in Skyrim will instantly try to kill the player regardless of whether they’re dressed like a travelling merchant or are standing head-to-toe in Daedric armor and carrying a bow made of dragon bone. In Avowed , players should have multiple options when dealing with both hostile and non-hostile encounters. They should be able to attempt to bribe their would-be attackers, or make other last-ditch attempts like claiming they can lead the bandits to a hidden treasure if they’re good enough at persuasion, giving them an opportunity to make a get-away la Rumors suggest that Avowed will have in-depth spells . It's common practice for action-RPG titles to include abilities that have cooldowns so that they can't be spammed, and make fighting enemies more of a challenge. These are often only seconds long and still enable players to use their skills fairly liberally. What Avowed can take from Pillars of Eternity to differentiate from Skyrim and other similar games are skills which have longer cooldown periods. In PoE, gamers have access to a deep well of abilities that can be used per encounter and rest, and this could work well in the upcoming action-RPG. Potent abilities that can only be used infrequently would help players turn the tide in close battles, and also encourage getting basic combat and tactics mastered, as the more powerful skills couldn't be used very often. This could also necessitate limited resting when on adventures, making each rest more valua Almost every line in the Avowed trailer points to the return of Woedica, a goddess from Pillars of Eternity who is also known as the Burned Queen, the Exiled Queen, the Oathbinder, or the Strangler. Here are all the hints at her return, and what players can expect from Woedica in Avowed 's st
