Despite locking certain modes away until new players have earned them, actually selecting what you want to play and jumping into a game is seamless. Much like the title screen, not much here has changed when compared to the first entry. Things are simple and easy to read, while updating character designs have been thrown onto each icon and pop with real visual flair. With any luck, PvE will be an option on this menu in just a few short months.


This Zen-themed Control map is both a delight to gaze upon and to play through, with its variance of indoor and outdoor regions, its crafty level design, and its abundance of pits which can lead to some chaotic fights for the point. A number of heroes can thrive here, including the defensive Symmetra and Mei, while heroes with push abilities can certainly have their fun in the Sanctum portion of this

Fortunately, the hero gallery is still a breeze to navigate and has been updated with new portraits for each character. Actual models are used this time around instead of stylised drawings, and I’m still not entirely sure which of them I prefer. I’m sure they’ll grow on me.

Overwatch 2 Achievements’s biggest strength is how good its characters feel to play. Unfortunately, playing them online can feel unrewarding, specifically because of how toxic its player base is. Fortunately, Overwatch 2 has a unique opportunity to rectify this by offering the same high-octane gunplay without forcing you to hemorrhage SR purely because people on your team are being total dicks. It doesn’t need a complex story, or a million maps, or anything like that. I love this screen. It’s slick, colourful, and showcases how good I am at certain characters. I will say that I am not a Lucio main by choice, but largely because my team would be ruined without me healing their asses on a constant basis. It’s a shame that a lot of tasks have carried over from the first game instead of starting afresh, meaning your main source of progression this time around is the battle pass and not much else. Speaking of!
Part of me is curious to see where new modes and additions will appear when the first big seasonal update rolls around, or if Blizzard has something more experimental planned for a hero shooter that is relatively by-the-numbers right now. But when it comes to the user interface experience, I gotta give this thing top marks.
