One thing in particular that newer Battlefield titles seem to gloss over is the potential in functionally destructible environments . Sure, every Battlefield game since Bad Company has featured highly destructible environments, but never as functionally important as the first few iterations. Destruction quickly became a defining difference between Battlefield and Call of Duty , but future iterations have subdued the importance of destruction. Earlier titles like Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 featured destruction in a limited form, only allowing for certain geometry (like bridges) to be destroyed while the rest of the landscape remained unchanged. Insider Tom Henderson, who has previously shared accurate information about the latest Modern Warfare and Black Ops releases before release, is now dropping reveals about the next Battlefield game set to be released sometime in 2021 . Replying to user Usman, who tweeted about his own love and nostalgia for Battlefield 3 , Henderson replied saying, "you'll be a happy bunny next year then" with a little smiley face for his followers. Afterwards, Henderson explained his vague statement clarifying that he was not referring to a remaster of Battlefield 3 - which another (and less reliable "insider" ) has claimed is also happening - but rather, the next installment of the franchise. Battlefield 6 , he claims, is a modern-set game which seems all but obvious anyway at this point given the response to the last several BF games and the record-setting popularity of Call of Duty's long overdue return to a modern setting in Modern Warfa
That being said, taking that prototype gameplay at face value, it's clear that EA is inferring these new improvements in player density/fidelity and destruction refinements will be Battlefield 's key factors of success for next-gen . That's certainly not a bad thing, as having large-scale battlefields that evoke a simulation of war is exactly what Battlefield has done best in the past. The only major problem is that Battlefield 6 will need to make sure that these new additions are not just window dressing. These systemic improvements/refinements have to be done with purpose, not just for the sake of being technically impressive without any semblance of gameplay importa
That being said, this is just an interpretation of the next-gen prototypes shown in EA Play Live earlier this year. EA and DICE have confirmed that a new Battlefield game (presumably Battlefield 6 ) is headed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and currently has a 2021 release window planned. Occasionally rumors have come out about the next Battlefield game, some of which have been proven false , others have no evidence or backing. Overall, it'll be interesting to see what's truly in store for the once revered shooter franch

This return to a present day setting seems favorable to fans, and inevitable, as the indicative tweet from Henderson got an enthusiastic response from his followers. It sounds like the developers, EA DICE , are taking some cues from one of the favorites of the series, and surely setting it in modern times will give players some advanced weapons and vehicles to test out. Battlefield 6 however, must make up for Battlefield V and deliver not just substantially more content, but a higher level of polish, a faster rate of post-launch content, higher player counts, and some innovation to compete with Modern Warfare which has given Call of Duty their best game in years - one that also supports cross-play and offers its battle royale modes for f
